New in Patch 180: Commander

This is a rundown of the features of the new Commander feature, and how to use them.

First, what is it?

The commander voting system is a new mod for the server created by myself. This mod is based off of the Battlefield 2 Commander. Applying for commander should be the goal of all players on the server. You are able to spawn useful items to help your team, and some of the items help you gain more points than you normally would.

How does it work?

When a new map starts you have 5 minutes to apply to be a commander. During this time a message will pop on the screen once a minute that says "In console: 'mutate commander' Highest level player to apply wins!" Like the message says, to apply, open your console and type "mutate commander". At the end of the five minutes, the highest level player that applied wins the commander abilities. If there are two people with the highest rank, then the 1st person to apply wins. You are able to cast multiple votes in case you level up between the 1st time you voted and the end of the voting period. Voting numerous times DOES NOT increase your chances of winning.

At the end of the 5 minute voting period you must vote again to receive your commander abilities. A message pops up once every minute for 10 minutes reminding you "Commander has been chosen! Apply to see if you are the Commander!".

If you are the commander and you vote again you will receive a number of different artifacts.

If you are level 9 or below you will receive: Commander Artillery Strike, Commander Supply Drop, Commander Vehicle Drop

If you are level 10-19 you will also receive: Nuke Artifact

If you are level 20+ you will also receive: Commander Broken Arrow.

The Commander Artillery Strike, Commander Supply Drop, and Commander Vehicle Drop can be used an infinite number of times, but only once every 5 minutes. Other than this feature, they operate the same as their radio pickup counterparts.

The Nuke Artifact and Broken Arrow can only be received and used once per level. The Nuke Artifact is the same one the monsters drop. Broken Arrow will kill all monsters on the map for 30 seconds. You DO NOT get points for using Broken Arrow.

Safety Measures:

If you are commander and you die you will not drop your artifacts. Also, you can not toss them either. When you respawn, simply vote again to receive your artifacts again. As long as you haven't been the subject of a Mutiny, you will be able to re-claim your items throughout the rest of the round. This is even true if you get disconnected and the map is still running. Simply rejoin the game and apply again to receive your abilities. However if you take too long to return then don't be surprised if you become the victim of a Mutiny. Also, as a reminder the Nuke Artifact and Commander Broken Arrow can only be received one time. So do your best to ensure that you do not die before you get to use them.

I added a Mutiny feature which can be accessed by typing in console: "mutate mutiny". When a mutiny is started, the person who starts the mutiny process has their information recorded in a log file. We can use this information to make sure the mutiny system is not being abused by jealous players who didn't win commander. If your name appears on that list multiple times then we will become suspicious and start monitoring you. In order for a mutiny to be successful the Commander must have more than 50% of his peers vote against him. Each players information is recorded to ensure you can only vote once for a mutiny. If more than 50% of the votes occurs then the Commander will be stripped of his commander abilities and his commander position. Once this happens then the voting system will re-enable so you can choose a new Commander. The Commander who was dishonorably discharged by mutiny will be banned from voting to be commander for the rest of the round. And all players who voted in the previous mutiny will be able to participate in a new one, should another one occur.

Why should I vote mutiny you ask? The only valid reason should be if the Commander is not doing his job. The Commander should be constantly dropping supply drops and such for his team. If a Commander wins but does not claim their abilities, then after 10 minutes you can start a mutiny of that Commander for failure to do their duties.

I have also included the option for a Commander to resign. This allows the Commander to be stripped of his abilities and be honorably discharged, and therefore free to apply again if he would like to. Once this occurs the voting period will be re-enabled for 5 minutes. To do this the Commander must open console and type "mutate resign".

Broken Arrow is intended for the most dire situation, so use it wisely.
