It isn't packet loss, I ran Win MTR traces to the server through several games and there was little to none despite the sync loss. However, I've recently changed my internet from DSL to fibre optic and got a new router, I also optimised my connection for the new speeds and since then this sync loss problem has gone away. I still get the odd lag spike at wave starts but it re-syncs very quickly now instead of staying behind. Whether that's due to the new speeds, the much better router, the optimisations I made or a combination of all 3 I'm not sure.
If you're getting sync issues that seem like packet loss then try this tool, I set my new speed and ticked the box for optimal.

If that doesn't work then check the age of your router.
