Patch 180 Difficulty give your opinion

I've mentioned my opinion about the difficulty on the 180 test server quite a few times but I got suggested this morning to start a seperate thread about this issue.
I'm not gonna post a wall of text like I ussually do, instead I recorded a short video of the last 3 waves on a random map while giving myself a couple of limitations.
That way you can see in the video why I think the difficulty is way to low and in the video I'll talk about it aswell.

The quality is poor because I'm having issues recording UT2004 and I kinda rushed this video.


Personally I'd like to see the difficulty that there is now on the 179 server.
I don't like this server to become like many of the few other servers that are left, where it is way to easy at a certain level because that takes the fun away.
Ofcourse everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I'd like everyone that reads this thread to post their opinion on the matter.

Edit.
To sum it up in a single line, this is the problem:
Monster health, damage reduction and damage is not scaling properly.

One thing to remember is that it is a test server. So keeping it easy for now helps work out the bugs with making it thru to wave 20. If we were to only make it to wave 10 on every map, then all the other waves wouldn't be tested. Input is always helpful so thanks.

I know but talked with Mobster and they increased the difficulty but then reduced it again and he suggested I'd make a post about this and to see what the rest is thinking aswell.
So give your suggestion;)

Goth is right, however we are at the stage of this thing pretty darn close to release.
The settings and difficulty should be worked out at this point to get a feel for how it will be when it's all said and done.

I agree with your points Banana.

I have yet to test it at a high level but i can imagine it being way to easy as it stands atm. as a lvl 150 and scoring 20k + on a map and 1 shot killing everything in sight takes the fun out of it. it definately needs to be toughened up a bit. the current stat it is at now is only good for lvls up to about 50, after that it gets simple. :rocket:

I just posted a whole new blurb on the difficulty level...it now sucks big time.

They are either harder to kill, or they are better at killing me...Not sure which, and probably a little of both.

Ive loaded and reloaded my stats a few times now, and nothing seems to help at level 100. :@

Adjusted monster difficulty from 5 to 7 thats why they are so good right now, propably gonna try out 6 and if that is to hard down to 5 again.
Will leave monster factor for another time because their health seems to be fine at level 100, need to test that at other levels first before we adjust that.
Gonna drop it down as soon as Joey comes on.
We're still tuning monster difficulty level and the monsterfactor.
Gonna be trial and error in this untill we find the numbers that feel just right, we want it to be difficult but not impossible.

people allways want a "challenge", means, no redeemer, no ssr maps.

exactly these people are the first who use shotty or mini-ssr, or claim for wand, heavy, light or ssr
when crate is open, or use deemers or ssr in that maps cause they cant kill anything or the fear
beeing beaten by a lowlevel who can easy kill monsters because of low player level average,,,

i dont see why its a problem now.... the only problem it might be is what banana said that vorpal is
tooo much needed... well, as long there is no regular ut weapon that can do damage to the monsters
in a moderate time... it makes no sense having a full loaded (phished) flak ext10, doing 100 damage
to a monster each hit, and it needs 100 hits till it dies while monster is doing 2 hits and you die....
works as long you have time to run away from one monster... but there are more monsters aiming at you
so no chance...

hmm.. o wait, im talking about beeing level 342 at 179....

Weapons are gonna be looked at in 181.
Propably will put in a piece of coding that will adjust the vorpal chance for each weapon so that each weapon on average takes about the same time to proc vorpal.
Also each regular and starting weapon with their PU's will be on average doing about the same damage.
Got plans for ghost, gold and metal monsters aswell. Gold reflects beams, metal deflects bullets, ghost takes less damage from splash damage.
This way no weapon is "the best" since everything will be about the same.
Special weapons will still be a bit stronger but not as grosely overpowered as some are and will be balanced in the same way.

Example:
Link plasma ball will do the same damage as a rocketlauncher fireball and have the same chance to proc vorpal.
Shotty will do the same damage as an AK47 and on average will take the same amount of time to proc vorpal.
This way you can use the weapon you prefer to use and not having to worry about your weapons being worse then others.
That's the idea I had atleast but that is still a long way from being implemented unfortunatly if it is gonna happen.

About the monsters:
Right now, you're getting your ass kicked in wave2 wich is not intended.
We don't want it to be impossibly difficult at low level but don't want it to be easy at high level either.
I don't want you to be only able to kill a monster with just Vorpal procs, you should be able to take them down with regular damage and let Vorpal be a small chance to gib them a bit quicker.
Some monsters are intended to be really hard like the boss luci, why he can't be killed with vorpal and why he is gonna have a ton more health then the other monsters. He is the final boss so to speak.
We changed shielding aswell so that you are no longer completely immune to certain weapons/attacks.
We want you to dodge those rocks and the wands and what not and focus those targets down first, only way to do this is to force you to do this by having shields let you survive but still take significant damage and in the case with rocks you can still die in a single hit from 1 or 2 specific titans.
Numbers differ from 179 aswell because there are new more dangerous monsters, we adjusted excisting monsters, adjusted shielding, we're fixing glitches that people abuse and monsters in general are more difficult.
This is why we are toying with different settings and it will take a little time to test different things out at different levels and different settings untill we are happy with the results.
