If we can figure that out we'd be set as far as energy production goes. Nuclear plants are the most efficient way to produce electricity. They are also very safe and quite friendly to the planet (aside of the spent fuel rods).
The moon sounds like a great place to dump those rods......
Or better yet, the sun, because we'll eventually populate the moon. We already have 1 satellite headed to the sun, why not a "garbage scow" satellite with spent rods?
Ya know what beastay? That's my idea as well. Why not shoot all of the garbage into the sun. The vessel will melt before it impacts (as will all of the garbage), but the drawback is the extra radiation from the fuel rods...where will it end up?
If you lost your cd and have the old drive and have not reinstalled UT2004 or reformatted the drive, you can find your old cd key in the registry here ...

jesus...how many of you work for oil companies? how many of you know what happens behind their walls? if you KNEW (instead of assuming) a fraction about oil companies, all of you socialist, commie , hate breeding liberals would be singing a diff. tune.

and not to put to fine of a point on things, but gas has had the biggest increase in price in the last two years....guess who has been in charge of the house the last two years...ironic huh...

dont point a finger at oil companies or energy companies until you know what you are talking about...you people make yourself look un-educated blaming america's energy problems on companies that have no control over how much or what kind of product they get to make...

1800 has a point. How about this - oil companies that are forced to buy their oil from OPEC aren't making much money.

However, if you are getting your own oil, from your own wells... now, that's a new song to sing. Even with the rising fuel costs, you are still going to make out like a bandit because of how the middle east is pricing oil.

I'll believe it when the time comes.

Why do you have to be an employee of an oil company to understand the basic nature of how a business works? I'm a little doubtful a for-profit company, based on my own personal experiences and history, will have a fit of benevolence and lower their prices to where customers want it. I'm not expecting a SHARP drop in prices. At most, they'll probably lower their prices after not having to deal with OPEC anymore, but if customers continue to pay for (a much needed) commodity at the current prices, and it hasn't harmed their profits, then why?

In the meantime, I am siding on the idea FOR domestic drilling, without a moment's hesitation. I want nothing better than to have this country get off of OPEC COMPLETELY, and hit 'em where it hurts-- Their wallets.

Good question ZS. I can only assume that it would be "consumed" by space itself. Hell, there's probably more radiation in a single solar flare than there is in ten thousand spent spent fuel rods - at a particular given distance from the sun to which the solar flare extends, of course.
I will consistently sacrifice political correctness for an attempt at humor. If ya can't deal, then ya need ta stop being ign'ant.

I'm not sure to what extent the fuel rod material would become. If it becomes vaporized by the sun, then I don't think we have much to worry about. Solar winds from the sun may nudge that stuff back to us, and I'm not completely sure if our magnetic field will protect us. :(
